Altered File Folders

I somehow stumbled on Patty Bennett's tutorial for altered file folders last fall, thankfully! They are so cute and incredibly simple to make - after the first one, make sure to use a generic folder first so you 'get' what to do, after that, super simple!

I'd venture to say that just about anyone who knows me received one of these at Christmas! They're just that cute and easy to make! I started out with the SU! Thoroughly Modern file folders, but three orders later I decided to stop waiting on Mr. Brown and headed out to Office Max and Staples to see what they had. Oh my, I was in file folder puppy love, lol :)

This set of folders came from the clearance shelf at WalMart. The quality isn't as thick as the other sets, but I didn't find that to be a big deal since they're a disposable item. I also didn't realize until I got them home and opened that the insides had large polka dots - how cute!

Two tips I found helpful... I cut the left and right sides of the bottom flat that folds up at a slight, maybe 1/4", angle before putting adhesive on it. I also found out after my sister actually used the flap to hold things that by using a foam tape (her idea!) instead of flat adhesive, it makes it easier to 'use' the pocket on the left...gives it a little wiggle room!

If you're using a Scor-Pal instead of a paper trimmer with a scoring blade, you can find revised instructions On Papercraft Planet that might help. Then again, I tend to do things backwards, so maybe it only helped me ;)

Blue DP by Me Sketch

THIS is why I {{{heart}}} these DTGD challenges! I would've never - in a million years - ever come up with this! I'm not a blue person...I try...but I don't use it much...but the Bella Bleu dsp is great... I saw the sketch and said, whoa, that's way too hard for me (sorry, Rainy, but I love it now!)... But then after peeking at a few samples, it all clicked and came together :) Sorry...all that to say this is for 3 challenges, DP by ME, Hues of Blue and Saturday's sketch! TFL :)

New Colors!!!

How sad...I've had the new SU! In Colors for a week and a half and have not taken the time to use them until today :( Bad, bad stamper, lol! I admit, the new colors are a little out of my comfort zone, but I DO love them! DH's company diversity council needed a thank you card for a guest speaker. I thought this tree with all different colors of leaves would be good and 'diverse'. Love, Love, LOVE that the new ICs come in markers - WooHoo!!!!

Mom's a purple nut and if she's getting tired of SU!'s current shades of purple, she'll get a break from them when the new Rich Razzleberry arrives - WooHoo!!!

Heidi's Name Frame

I saw so many cute frames on SCS that I had to make one for our new niece, Heidi! Below is the big picture of the whole frame, along with some close-ups and deets. Both the base and top layers of letters are on pop up dots.

I love using the new SU! Clear Flower die on acetate as a fun addition!

Every little girl needs to start her life off with a little extra bling :)

Kirsten has a great video on her blog showing how to make these roses!

Honey said the curly ribbon crossed the line...but I'll let the momma decide that one, lol!
Paper: Certainly Celery & Pink Pirouette DSP, Pretty in Pink, Pink Pirouette
Accessories: SU Certainly Celery and Pink Piroutette Ribbon, SU Flower die, SU Butterfly die, Dazzling Diamonds, Acetate, MS Butterfly punch, bling, needle, thread, SU Mat Pack, Pop Up Dots, curly ribbon (?)
The letters were cut out on my friend's Cricut.
Thanks for looking!!!

Heidi's Baby Card

Our family welcomed the new addition of an 8 lb. 8 oz. baby girl last week, born to our sister-in-law. Here's the baby card I made for her. I loved the idea to use the words from Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star from ClaireD and adapted the card because she's not really a vintage person so I thought this would fit her taste a little more.

Stamps: Buggies and Booties
Paper: Chocolate Chip, Vanilla, Pretty in Pink, Pattern Pack
Ink: Gold
Accessories: Nesties, Pearls, Copics, EP, Ribbon, Printer

Manhattan Flower

The Fifth Avenue Floral stamp set was on my list when the new SU catty came out...but when I got to the back and saw the coordinating dsp and Manhattan Flower embossing folder, I quickly moved the stamp set up to my top three pick! This is just a first, quick stab at making something with the new folder. Well, it started at clean and simple, until I had an accident with the glitter - whoops!!!

Stamps: Fifth Ave Floral
Paper: Cameo Coral, Glossy White
Ink: Barely Banana, Pink Pirouette
Accessories: Ribbon, 2-way Glue, Glitter, Corner Rounder Punch

Coffee with Friends

This was for yesterday's sketch challenge over on SCS. I haven't used this set in awhile and needed a guy card - I really like this dsp for guy stuff! Only afterwards, I realized guys probably won't grab a coffee cup with a fru-fru handle, lol :)

Bellagio Bella

My BFF, Tammy, got me hooked on the Chichiboulie Fairies by Stamping Bella. She is wicked like that ;-) I finally got little Miss Gardenia Gardenthumb inked up yesterday for the SCS VSN BELLAGIO Challenge to create a card using a transparency and you MUST use flowers in your design somewhere. Flowers...that's real hard, right? lol :-)

The acetate flower is made with the new clear SU! Flower die. There are also Shimmerz on the wings that are not showing up.

Stamps: Bella Gardenia Gardenthumb

Butterflies, Baskets and Cards

My friend Jenny posted this cute basket on her blog that she cased and I had to make one! There's a link to the orginator's template on Jenny's site. I changed the size a bit and used an 8.5 x 9.5 sheet and scored 2.5" on the short sides and 3" on the long sides.

I also used Taylor's sketch challenge for the card.

This will be a fun little gift ensemble :-)

Paper: Apricot Appeal, Barely Banana, Pretty in Pink, dsp
Accessories: SU! Sizzix Butterfly die, Nesties, SU! Eyelet Border Punch, Ribbon, SU! Texturz Plates

Urban Garden Sketch Challenge

I learned something today... If you continue to use the supplies you got out for your first card to make additional cards, eventually your desk cleans itself off and there's nothing left to put away. Profound, aye? ;-)
I started out with the Urban Garden DSP for today's Color Throwdown below. I really liked the colors together - minus the blush blossom - for a masculine card. So, when I saw today's SCS Sketch Challenge, I thought it would make for a fun/funky guy birthday card...and then since there was still some left and I hate cleaning off my desk, I thought it would make nice thinking of you cards. And there you have it!

Stamps: Just B
Paper: Not Quite Navy, Kiwi Kiss, Urban Garden DSP
Ink: Kiwi Kiss, NQN
